Why I Started Building Websites for Real Estate Agents
Open almost any real estate agent’s website and you’ll find the same thing: a stock photo of a handshake, a bio nobody proofread past the first paragraph, and a listings widget that takes four clicks to load a single photo. Meanwhile the agent spent real money on it, often a few thousand dollars or more, paid to a template company that never once asked what their clients actually need to see.
I kept noticing it because noticing it is my job. I didn’t go looking for a problem in real estate. I found it while building a site for the first agent willing to try one, and couldn’t stop seeing the same gap everywhere after that.
I’ve spent about 20 years doing brand creative, video, and design work: directing video content, running creative at an agency, building brand campaigns for hospitality and travel companies. None of that is real estate. But all of it is the same underlying job: figuring out what actually makes someone trust a stranger enough to call them, and then building the thing that does that.
An agent’s website is supposed to be that thing. For almost everyone I looked at, it wasn’t. It was a template with their name swapped in, built once at launch and never touched again, saying nothing specific about who they are or what it’s actually like to work with them.
So I built Welcome Home Media: real estate agent websites that are actually simple, with a bio that reads like a person wrote it, and a listings section that doesn’t bury the one house someone came to look at. No live MLS feed cluttering up the page with homes you’re not even representing, just the listings you want to show, presented well.
The part I’m most excited about is smaller than the main site: a dedicated page for a single listing, with its own QR code. Put that code on the yard sign, and whoever scans it lands directly on that house, with photos, price, and your contact info, instead of your homepage, where they’d have to go hunting for it. It sounds minor until you’re the one standing on a buyer’s sidewalk watching them actually use it.
This isn’t a pitch deck idea. It’s already live. My first pilot client, Daniel Lowe of Kelly Right Real Estate, specializes in estates, ranches, vineyards, and golf properties in Central Oregon, exactly the kind of listings that deserve more than a generic template. His site has been up and in use, and every feature added since, including the color picker, the multi-photo upload, and the per-listing microsites, has come directly from watching a real agent actually use this day to day, not from guessing what agents might want.
What’s next
I’m looking for a handful more agents to build with before this is a finished product. The first 10 get a free setup and a 30-day trial, no card required, in exchange for telling me honestly what’s missing. If that’s you, reach out and let’s get your site up.
More of this is coming: a look at what actually belongs on an agent’s homepage, why I skipped a live IDX feed for the base product, and updates as the next few features ship. If you’re an agent and any of this sounds familiar, I’d like to hear about it.
